I created a footer menu and assigned it to location: footer. However the menu does not appear in footer. I only managed to get it to appear when I changed the setting to "show menu in underbar" - the menu appeared in the underbar but this is not what I want.
Please let me know how to get my footer menu to appear in footer.

The footer menu is for the under bar.
If you want a menu in the footer, you need to use a "menu widget" in the footer widget area ( appearance > widgets )
