    Hello!

I've a few questions about Multilanguage website

    1) I need to buy WPML?

I've read that cesis is WPML ready and willing to go for 2 language website
but i not understand what means: Cesis is Translation and WPML ready, the po and mo files are included so you will easily be able to translate the theme to the language you want.

I still need to buy WPML plugin or not need?

    2) Aside from WMPL I need to translate also the PO files with POedit?

Ive read in this ticket https://tranmautritam.ticksy.com/ticket/1330945/ someone use WPML also need to translate PO files with POedit.

Somewhere else I've read that WPML already traslate PO files so I not need POedit if I use WPML

It is not clear to me if I need to do both or WPML will translate all already. Can you help me understand please.

    3) what to do first

My domain is .it so I decided to start doing the website in Italian first. I set WP in Italian and I start writing posts porfolios ect in Italian. Some of the string are still in english (for example load more)

If I understood well, i need to edit po file doing the IT version and upload it, then us WPML to translate the content to English and then use another po file for english. Is this correct?

    4) localisation

is it better to have the italian version on .it domain and the english on .com domain and how can I achieve this?

    -

Sorry If I make so many question but I want to avoid to make is wrong or double job and trying to understand alone I find a bit of confusion due to mismatching suggestions...

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello Erica,

    1. WPML is the plugin to buy if you want to make a multi-language website without having to use different domain or sub domain, the plugin let you translate and do everything from the WordPress dashboard, this is the best option if you can afford it.

You won't need to use poedit or any other translation program, everything can be done from the WordPress dashboard, no need to have sub domain or other domain.

The only thing is that the plugins cost some money.

    2. What you can do is use the cesis.pot file we include in the theme and create a po file ( file that contains the translation of the language you want to use ) to be able to make the theme to appear in an other language, but if you want a multi-language website you will need to make a multi-site ( only 1 license required ) or use different domains ( if you do this you will need to buy 1 license of our theme for each domain you use )

    3. If you want your main site to be in Italian, then use poedit to translate the theme :

The easiest way to translate the theme is to use Poedit and to create a po file of your language.

You can find the .po file in the lang folder.

Download the poedit program ( https://poedit.net/ ) and create a new translation, open the cesis.pot file which is in our theme lang folder.

Then select the language you want to use and start to translate, When you are done translating save the file in the lang folder and upload it to your server.

http://wplang.org/translate-theme-plugin/ ( check the "2. How to translate a WordPress theme (or plugin)" Section )

    4. It really depends on how you are going to make your sites that use different languages, there is no "answer" for this one, it depends on how you want the sites to work.

    Have a nice day!
