I am able to edit all of the content on my page using the front-end editor except the menu and hero image/headline content.

How do I edit this section?

I think you are talking about the "Content block", if you imported demo pages they usually use "Content block" as Banner or Slider.

If you only see code and no back end editor on the content block then make sure you have set the WPbakery page builder correctly ( see "activate page builder" ) :
