Sorry to comment on this post, but I've noticed sub footer area wont show content entered on the Cesis - Footer Settings > Footer sub area when the post is published, buuuut, it shows it when the post is preview mode or draft.
We just tested but both seems to working just fine.
If you still have problem after clearing the server and browser cache then please create a new ticket and give us a link to the website and even better access to the dashboard, you should also try to disable any custom plugins you are using.

I tried to update through the Backend Editor as well as Appearance -> Customize -> Footer Settings.
Is it possible the theme is not installed properly? Please help!

You can modify it from
Cesis > Footer settings > Footer sub area

If that doesn't work make sure the page is not using any custom settings :
The pages you imported are using custom settings, what you need to do is go edit the page that has problem.
Then when you are editing the page, scroll down until you see the "Page options" panel.

There you will find the same option you have on the Cesis theme panel.
Turn off the "Use custom settings" from the general settings, header, main content tabs, this should fix the problem
