You should be able to change all of those settings, who did you set your blog?
Using the blog module or the WordPress "Posts page" setting from Settings > Reading?
We recommend you not using the "Posts page" but create a single page and use our blog module where you should be able to hide comments, change excerpt length etc :
I toggled off the comment count in Cesis settings but to no effect. It is still there and we want it removed.
The excerpt is really short for blog posts and we want it longer.
