I had the same issue as Kate after I updated my theme to 1.25 version. I deleted Visual Composer and then reinstalled it like you said. The site is now working, but Visual Composer is not. When I go to edit a page, the Visual Composer does not load at all. See attached screenshot. I\'ve deleted it again and reinstalled again, but no luck.
We tried to update the version of the plugin directly but it seems that we can\'t install it we get a : \"can\'t write to disk\" to disk error,
So I think it maybe a problem with your server, it seems that the plugin is installed but some files are missing that why the plugins is not logging correctly,
Can you please to contact your host.

Hi! I just updated to the most recent theme version and now the loading animation appears, but the site never actually loads.

The problem is because you use the older version of the visual composer,
Please go to plugins and delete the visual composer ( not only deactivate but delete it )
Then go to appearance > install plugins
And install the visual composer.
That should install the newest version of the visual composer and fix the problem.
