I'd like to have my Visual Composer that comes bundled with the theme to update automatically through the site (I use the VC often and I'd like to remove the need to download the files, extract the VC, and upload in to WP). I understand that I'll need to purchase separate VC license keys, but I wanted to get your thoughts first. Will the theme be ok if I purchase a separate license key and use that instead of the bundled VC plugin files?

Hello Josh,
In fact you should wait for our theme to be updated before updating the visual composer to the new version to avoid conflict and bug.
After updating our theme you can delete the visual composer and then install the new version from Appearance > install plugins.
You can activate the auto update for our theme using the envato tool kit plugins : Theme update
